The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Metropolitan Railway construction project, with a total project cost of KRW 3.1813 trillion, has cleared the hurdle of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. As a result, the project to build 'Donggumi Station' near the eastern side of Gumi National Industrial Complex 3 is gaining serious momentum.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance held the '7th Fiscal Investment Evaluation Committee of 2026' on the 26th and announced that the preliminary feasibility study for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Metropolitan Railway project, connecting Seodaegu Station in Daegu and Uiseong Station in Gyeongbuk, has finally passed. The route involves constructing a double-track railway over a total length of 70.06㎞, with the newly built section alone reaching 64.97㎞.
With this preliminary feasibility study passing, limitations in metropolitan transportation accessibility for the southeastern region of the Gumi Industrial Complex, which had been bypassed by existing railway networks, will be resolved at once. The city of Gumi has strongly demanded the establishment of Donggumi Station along the route. This is because, given the characteristics of the Gumi National Industrial Complex where high-tech IT industries such as semiconductors, defense, and secondary batteries are concentrated, demand for high-value-added air logistics is surging. Infrastructure to reduce logistics costs and attract outstanding research talent was also desperately needed for the success of the recently designated 'Specialized Complex for High-Tech Strategic Semiconductor and Defense Industries.' This is the fruit of an all-out effort driven by the local community's aspiration, with 150,000 Gumi citizens participating in a signature campaign since February to pressure government ministries.
This creates powerful synergy with the previously confirmed Gumi-Gunwi Expressway construction and the materialization of this metropolitan railway route. The work to build road and railway transportation networks linking major hubs in Daegu and Gyeongbuk and connecting to the integrated new airport will accelerate further.
Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, "The passage of the preliminary feasibility study for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Metropolitan Railway and the establishment of Donggumi Station are historical turning points for Gyeongbuk and Gumi to take a leap forward." He added, "We will further solidify Gumi's future foundation where people and industries grow together by promoting corporate investment and attracting top talent." He also added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the establishment of Donggumi Station proceeds without a hitch through close consultations with relevant organizations in subsequent procedures such as establishing the basic plan."
