Manchester United, a prestigious club in the English Premier League (EPL), touched Korean fans deeply by directly reciting Article 1 of the Constitution in celebration of South Korea's 78th Constitution Day.
On the 17th, Manchester United uploaded a lengthy congratulatory post in Korean commemorating Constitution Day along with a photo of numerous fluttering Taegeukgi (South Korean flags) on its official Instagram account.
Manchester United quoted paragraphs 1 and 2 of Article 1 of the South Korean Constitution word for word, stating, "The Republic of Korea is a democratic republic. The sovereignty of the Republic of Korea shall reside in the people, and all state authority shall emanate from the people." They added a warm congratulatory message saying, "We congratulate South Korea on its 78th Constitution Day," along with a clapping hands emoji.
In particular, they provided a specific explanation about the posted photo, saying, "It features the Taegeukgi at the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan," showing the dignity of a truly respectful club that goes beyond mere machine-translated greetings to deeply respect Korea's history and culture.
While it is not uncommon for famous overseas sports clubs to acknowledge South Korea's national holidays, it is highly unusual for them to directly mention the foundational constitutional articles of the country to reflect on their meaning. Domestic fans who came across the post responded enthusiastically, saying, "As expected from the former club of Ha-beoji (Father of Overseas Football, Park Ji-sung)," and "You can feel their sincerity beyond simple marketing."
