Roamed around the frontline area in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province for 1D2N

Approached GOP and cut multiple boundary optical fences in several places

Military delayed securing custody after initial detection

Joint investigation team including NIS launches probe into intrusion route

It was belatedly revealed that a woman in her 30s breached the civilian control line (CCL) of a frontline unit in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, and illegally entered up to the General Outpost (GOP) to damage boundary facilities. Critics point out that serious vulnerabilities have been exposed in frontline guard, search, and interdiction operations as military authorities failed to secure her custody at the initial detection stage.

According to the military and comprehensive reports, the military detected unidentified activity in the area north of the CCL on the 24th and immediately launched a search, but failed to secure her custody at the time. The following day, on the 25th, the individual approached the GOP area and damaged multiple points of the boundary optical fence with pre-prepared cutting tools.

It was confirmed that the woman stayed in the area north of the CCL for a day and a night, evading military troops deployed for the search. The military finally secured the woman's custody only on the afternoon of the 25th, confirming that the person detected the previous day, the optical fence cutter, and the apprehended individual were all the same person.

Currently, a joint investigation team including the National Intelligence Service has taken over custody of the woman and is intensively investigating the exact route of her CCL entry, the purpose of her GOP approach, and the motive behind the optical fence damage. Due to this incident where the frontline surveillance network was breached, rigorous investigations into the military's overall initial surveillance system and on-site response capabilities appear inevitable.
