A woman in her 30s who went missing in Jeju three months ago has finally been found dead. The shocking reality of dereliction of duty was also brought to light, revealing that the responsible police officer closed the case with a fabricated report without even attempting to contact the missing person.

At around 10:46 AM on the 24th, the Jeju Provincial Police Agency discovered a body presumed to be that of Jang Mi-ran (37) during a joint search in the Hallim-eup area of Jeju City. The body was recovered near the initial disappearance site, just a 10-minute walk from Jang's accommodation. The police stated, "Judging by the current state of the body, we believe the possibility of foul play is low," and plan to verify the exact identity and cause of death through forensic examinations.

Jang vanished on May 12th. Although her boyfriend immediately filed a missing person report, Officer A of the Jeju Western Police Station, who was assigned to the investigation, responded irresponsibly. Without searching for Jang or attempting to contact her, the officer arbitrarily closed the case, claiming that "she does not wish to contact her family."

Such dereliction of duty was habitual. Another missing person whose case was falsely closed by Officer A using the same method was also found dead on the 22nd. After seeing media reports regarding Jang, the family of the previous victim filed a new report, catching the police in their outrageous cover-up.

Investigative authorities arrested Officer A on charges of dereliction of duty and the forgery and uttering of public electronic records, and applied for an arrest warrant on the 24th. That morning, Officer A left the holding cell of the Jeju Eastern Police Station to attend the review of the legality of arrest at the Jeju District Court.
