"More Ballots Counted Than Voters"... Rep. Joo Jin-woo Targets National Election Commission, Demands Special Counsel Investigation into 'Ghost Voting'

Allegations of massive election fraud that shake the foundation of the June 3 local elections have erupted. It has been exposed that there are as many as 46 'ghost polling stations' nationwide where more ballots came out of the ballot boxes than actual voters who visited the polls.

Representative Joo Jin-woo of the Special Committee on Parliamentary Investigation lashed out, claiming that the National Election Commission's voting management system has completely collapsed, and strongly pressured Special Counsel Lee Tae-han's team for an immediate compulsory investigation.

When Representative Joo compared the handwritten voting records 1-on-1 with the actual vote tallies, numerical discrepancies poured in from all over the country. During the Gyeyang-eul National Assembly by-election, the counted votes exceeded the number of voters by 10. Cases of excess counts of 57 ballots in Songpa and 16 ballots in Chuncheon were also identified. Representative Joo retorted, "Did the ballot papers drop from the sky?" and claimed that the NEC committed data manipulation by disguising misclassified ballots as normally sorted ones to cover up the issue.

Meanwhile, the NEC, which oversees election management, has neglected post-hoc inspections. It remained silent until Representative Joo's independent data analysis came out and has failed to even explain the cause of the vote share discrepancies. Furthermore, it has been making excuses and refusing to submit the national vote-counting status sheets requested by Representative Joo for the purpose of additional verification for over two weeks.

An ultimate ultimatum has been issued at the parliamentary level. Representative Joo declared that if the NEC fails to submit the data by right before the Special Committee meeting this Friday, he will initiate legal action on charges of evidence concealment and obstruction of the committee's activities. All secured analysis data will be immediately handed over to Special Counsel Lee Tae-han. With a flood of suspicious circumstances pointing to manipulation that cannot be dismissed as simple mistakes such as misentering vote shares for winners and losers, a thorough special counsel investigation without sanctuary—including the search and seizure of the NEC servers—has become inevitable.
