It has been confirmed that the Blue House abruptly excluded the Presidential Security Service from the list of recipients for the upcoming Chuseok presidential gifts. While the Blue House cited a 'budget shortage,' police-affiliated security units are included in the distribution, leading to interpretations that this reflects the Security Service's sharply fallen status under the current administration and lingering political resentment.

According to ruling camp sources on the 6th, the Blue House excluded the Security Service from this year's Chuseok presidential gift recipients, instead notifying the service to use its own budget to purchase and distribute gifts to its employees directly. This completely breaks the past practice of uniformly delivering gifts to Security Service employees using the Blue House budget.

On the other hand, presidential gifts will be distributed as usual to the Presidential Secretariat as well as the police-affiliated 101st and 202nd Security Corps responsible for guarding the inside and outside of the Blue House perimeter. While the Blue House maintains that the budget situation is so dire that the quantity of gifts per secretariat employee has been reduced from two to one, critics point out that the explanation lacks persuasiveness given the differential treatment between the police units performing the same security duties and the Security Service.

Political circles view this measure as a cross-section revealing the subtle current between the current administration and the Security Service. Analysts suggest that because the Security Service took the lead in completely blocking the execution of the arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol in the past, the current administration's view of them is unfavorable.

As they face symbolic disadvantages such as having to use their own budget for purchases and being excluded from distribution despite performing identical security missions, voices within the Security Service complaining of an organizational sense of loss and plummeting morale are growing louder.
