The 'National Unification Information Resource Center,' Korea's only specialized library for unification and North Korea, will be newly established near KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province.

According to the Ministry of Unification on the 13th, the center, which will hold its groundbreaking ceremony on the 16th, will be built with a total project cost of 48.4 billion won, spanning a total floor area of 8,463㎡ (1 basement floor to 3 above-ground floors), with the goal of opening in the first half of 2027.

The core significance of this center's construction lies in the complete independence and expansion of its infrastructure. The 'North Korea Resource Center,' which has been renting space within the National Library of Korea, will move to this new location with its own independent building 35 years after its establishment. The new center plans to significantly expand the scale of its archival storage, reading rooms, and exhibition halls compared to before.

The Ministry of Unification explained the purpose of the construction, stating, "It will become the nation's only core facility dedicated to exhibiting high-quality historical materials on unification and inter-Korean relations to the public and expert researchers, and providing systematic public information on North Korea."
