Actress Kim Min-ha will lead the start of the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), Asia's largest film festival, as a sole host.
The Busan International Film Festival Secretariat officially announced that actress Kim Min-ha has been selected as the sole host for the opening ceremony of the 31st edition, which will be held for 10 days starting Tuesday, October 6. By putting Kim Min-ha at the forefront as a symbol of a new leap forward, BIFF is reorganizing its international status, having newly introduced a competition section to the festival last year.
Debuting in 2016, Kim Min-ha gained worldwide attention by playing the young 'Sunja' in the Apple TV original series 『Pachinko』 (2022, 2024), three-dimensionally embodying a strong vitality amidst the tragedies of the times. Through this, she won the Best New Actress in a TV Category at the 2022 Asian American Awards, proving her potential on the global stage.
Her subsequent career path is also on a steep upward trajectory. Crossing multiple media and genres with dramas such as 『Light Shop』 (2024), 『One Week Before I Die』 (2025), and the film (2026), she successively swept the Best Actress in the International Competition Category at the 2025 Seoul International Drama Awards, Best New Actress at the Blue Dragon Series Awards, and Best Actress (Rising Star) at the 2026 Korea First Brand Awards.
BIFF stated the background of her selection, saying, "We paid attention to her unprecedented career path, faithfully representing the inner sides of characters with deep interpretation in every work," adding, "Kim Min-ha's hosting, equipped with neat yet solid energy, will further brighten the status of this festival."
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will take place around the Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan, from Tuesday, October 6 to Thursday, October 15.
