Actress Kim Min-ha will solely lead the opening of the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), Asia's largest film festival.
The Busan International Film Festival Secretariat officially announced that actress Kim Min-ha has been selected as the sole host for the opening ceremony of the 31st edition, which will be held for 10 days starting Tuesday, October 6. BIFF, which reorganized its international status last year by newly introducing a competition section to the film festival, has put Kim Min-ha at the forefront as a symbol of its new leap forward.
Debuting in 2016, Kim Min-ha gained worldwide attention by playing the young 'Sunja' in the Apple TV original series 『Pachinko』 (2022, 2024), three-dimensionally embodying a strong vitality amidst the tragedies of the times. Through this, she won the Best Newcomer in a TV Series award at the 2022 Asian American Awards, proving her potential on the global stage.
Her subsequent moves are also on a steep upward trajectory. Crossing multiple media and genres with dramas like 『Light Shop』 (2024), 『A Week Before I Die』 (2025), and the film (2026), she sequentially swept the Best Actress award in the International Competition category at the 2025 Seoul International Drama Awards, the Best New Actress award at the Blue Dragon Series Awards, and the Actress (Rising Star) award at the 2026 Korea First Brand Awards.
BIFF stated the background for her selection, "We focused on her unrivaled career of faithfully representing the inner sides of characters with deep interpretation in every work," adding, "Kim Min-ha's hosting, equipped with neat yet solid energy, will further brighten the status of this festival."
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will take place from Tuesday, October 6 to Thursday, October 15 around the Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan.
